GLASGOW, SCOTLAND, February 26, 2024 /EINPresswire.com/ — Regenerate Technology Global, an international leader in battery materials and technology, announces it has secured a long-term lease on a 50,000 square foot facility on the outskirts of Glasgow, Scotland. The facility awaits the proper permitting that will enable Regenerate to process and refine lithium-ion batteries as well as alkaline batteries.

Regenerate’s latest move reinforces its commitment to be a leader in the battery materials and technology market in the United Kingdom. Last month the company announced its acquisition of Fenix Battery Recycling, with a trading, transit and storage facility in Kilwinning, located 30 minutes drive from Glasgow. Fenix will play a major role in providing feedstock for procesing at the new Glasgow facility.

The prevalence of end-of-life EV batteries is still quite modest worldwide. Regenerate’s Glasgow facility therefore also will focus on the processing of portable batteries, transforming them into black mass.

Another strategic acquisition that Regenerate has made in the UK was Ever Resource, a battery technology and IP company located in Cambridge, with close ties and a research partnership with the Material Science Department at Cambridge University. Regenerate will apply aspects of this proprietary technology at its Glasgow plant in the refining of black mass into valuable materials for ongoing battery production.

Dr. David Batstone, co-founder and CEO of Regenerate, underscores the importance of the Glasgow plant for Regenerate’s international mission. “Glasgow will be a showcase for our cutting-edge technology in lithium-ion battery upcycling, and this operation will make us a leader in the UK market. Regenerate also plans to innovate the processing of alkaline batteries at its Glasgow plant. Today there are a scarcity of alkaline battery recyclers in the UK and the EU, so Regenerate sees an opportunity to diversify its battery portfolio. Regenerate already possesses alkaline battery processing equipment that it will deploy in Glasgow.

Damian Lambkin, CEO of Fenix Battery Recycling, will play a key role in bringing the Glasgow plant to operation.

Lambkin emphasizes the critical importance of Regenerate’s ecosystem: “We already have in hand the feedstock partnerships that will supply Glasgow with a steady supply of lithium-ion and alkaline batteries.
