U.S. Selects Sister Cities International to Recruit Expo 2025 Osaka USA Pavilion Youth Ambassadors

The U.S. Department of State is pleased to announce the selection of Sister Cities International to recruit, train, and deploy young Americans, our Youth Ambassadors, to serve as guides at the USA Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka.  International Expos, also known as World’s Fairs, present historic opportunities to showcase American values, enterprise, culture, and global leadership as well as to promote collaboration with international partners to tackle shared global challenges.

Sister Cities International was created at President Eisenhower’s 1956 White House summit on citizen diplomacy, where he envisioned a network that would serve as a champion for peace and prosperity by fostering bonds between people from different communities around the world.  Sister Cities International works to facilitate lifelong connections that help promote peace and prosperity through person-to-person “citizen diplomacy.”  As a membership association, they also strengthen sister cities networks by providing essential services, programs, and resources to help members find partners as well as to expand and improve the quality of their engagement.

The United States is excited to work with Sister Cities International to identify young Americans to represent our country at Expo 2025 Osaka.  Language skills (Japanese as well as other languages), curiosity, and customer service skills will be important, though not exclusive, considerations in the selection process.  Youth Ambassadors serve as the “faces” of America and historically have been a highlight of Expo visitors’ experience.  Applicants can go www.sistercities.org  beginning August 7, 2024, for further information.

The USA Pavilion theme “Imagine What We Can Create Together” encourages visitors to visualize themselves in the United States as we support advances in sustainability, space exploration, education, and entrepreneurship.  Visitors to the Pavilion will explore studying at American schools, virtually tour various parts of the United States, appreciate the country’s natural beauty and sustainability efforts, and join our journey back to the moon and beyond.  Expo 2025 Osaka will open on April 13, 2025, and is expected to receive more than 28 million visits over the course of its six-month duration.
